SEPTEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER
Welcome to our ninth newsletter for 2023. The migration of both our email and web site have now been complete without any apparent issues. We will be looking at modernising our web site over the next few months as our next project. Liz and I will be on holidays over October, so please don't expect any correspondence (or newsletter) during that time. We would appreciate your support for our relief instructors running our classes while we are away.
Johnathon has given notice that he will be moving to Queensland at the end of the year. As many of you know, he has had many health issues recently. His latest test for cancer have shown his cancer is now gone since his chemotherapy, but he is looking for a warmer climate to help with his recuperation. We wish him well in his endeavors in the sun. This will of course have a cascade of effects on our classes as we sort out replacement instructors where possible. A list of immediate changes are below, and there will be more to follow as we process the implications of this upheaval.
Arrangements for our 30th Birthday are well underway. We have been revising the dances during all our classes to help with a smooth walk through on the day. If you are going, please remember to bring a cup and cutlery to reduce the impact on the environment.

  • Sample Birthday Shirts ($30) will be available to try on and order at the social.

30th Birthday Merchandise
As we have done for the last big club birthday events, we are making black anniversary shirts available for sale. We only do them every 5 years and they have an embroidered club birthday logo, this time in bright red.
The cost will be $30 including GST and will only be produced on order.
We have samples of sizes 10, 12 and 14 in the same style as previous ladies birthday shirts (other sizes are no longer available). We have samples of sizes 16, 18 and 20 in a new ladies style shirt (different brand) to try on to ensure correct fit. We also still have access to the black men's style polo shirt that we have used in previous years (which is also the same style the we use for our green shirts).
We will have the samples at the Birthday social should people wish to try them on. The order will then be placed and they should be available for distribution at the November social, to either the dancer, or their instructor for distribution in classes.
CLASS CHANGES - UPDATED
Barbara's new Easy Level class at Kensington Park is now operational, after a successful opening. Welcome to the new members of our line dance family and congratulations to Barbara on graduating from her training and getting her first class. Thanks to all the dancers in Liz's Wednesday class for supporting her during her training, it was appreciated.
Unfortunately, the new Mainstream class at Henley Beach has not taken off as hoped, so it will be closing shortly. The Easy level class at Henley Beach has attracted a number of new dancers, so it seems to be holding its own and will continue, though its time slot will have to change to accommodate some other class changes caused by Johnathon's imminent departure.
The following changes have happened or are happening due to Johnathon's change of plans:
  • Seaton Wednesday Evening Easy Level Class is now running with Peter and Liz as the new instructors
  • Glenelg Wednesday Morning Transition class is now shut
  • Ingle Farm Monday Evening Mainstream Class is now shut
  • South Plympton Monday Morning Mainstream Class will be changing to a 10am start (change date to be advised)
  • Henley Beach Monday Afternoon Easy Level Class will be changing to a 1pm start (change date to be advised)
  • Henley Beach Monday Afternoon Mainstream Class is now shut
There will obviously be more changes, as the full impact of Johnathon's departure is assessed, but those other changes will be announced after we get back from holidays, once plans are more mature.

NOTE: Due to Instructor Holidays, the following classes will not be running on the given dates:
  • Tuesday 8th August to 26th September - Victor Harbor Classes will not be running (try Goolwa Friday as a replacement)
  • Thursday 10th August to 28th September - McLaren Vale Classes will not be running (try Goolwa Friday or Reynella Thursday as a replacement)
  • Wednesday 4th October to 18th October - Parafield Gardens Mainstream class will not be running (try Marden Tuesday Morning as a replacement)
